Syracuse/Onondaga County NAACP to Host Congressional Candidate Forums
The NAACP of Syracuse and Onondaga County will host Congressman John Katko, R-Camillus and Democrat Dana Balter at two candidate forums later this month to offer residents a chance to learn more about the competitors in the race for New York’s 24th Congressional District.
With Dr. Keith Alford, the School of Social Work Chair at Syracuse University, acting as moderator, Balter and Katko will participate in two separate Q&A forums — free and open to the public — in which they will be asked to answer questions submitted in advance by the community. Both forums will be held Sunday, Oct. 1st. Congressional Rep. Katko is scheduled to appear at 4:00 p.m. and congressional candidate Dana Balter will answer questions at 6:00 p.m. Both events will be held at Living Water Church of God in Christ at located at 121 Huron St. in Syracuse.
Questions for the candidates can be submitted to syracusenaacp@gmail.com or upon entrance to the forum. Live audience questions will not be permitted during the forums. The events are scheduled to run for 90 minutes, followed by refreshments. Each candidate will offer opening and closing remarks before and after the Q&A session.
As part of ongoing efforts to promote civic engagement, including helping register 160 voters at the New York State Fair, the NAACP will also be enacting its “Souls to the Polls” program on Election Day, offering free rides to polling locations.
